Carol’s Daughter!

I know I spoke yesterday about my skin care routine, but today I want to talk to you about my hair care routine.

I have curly hair (that I just chopped like 4 inches off of yesterday!) that have always had problems with. From a young age, I hated my curly hair. I would straighten it almost every single day.

Now, in my old age, I have finally embraced my curly hair. I’ve used Carol’s daughter for a while now and I love it. My first experience with the brand was about 4 years ago when a good friend of mine who worked at Ulta recommended it to me and I’ve been a loyal customer ever since! I recently bought some items from their hair milk collection and they really have helped revitalize my curls without weighing them down.

I was lucky enough to get a discount code from them to share with you guys, but act fast!

Sitewide Sale – $10 off $25 or $25 off $60 Purchase at Carol’s Daughter! Valid 6/17-6/19.

Let’s get real

This won’t be a long post. But I need to get something off my chest. And it not like it’s weighing me down. But I want to know if anyone else with mental disorders has this issue too.

Sometimes my anxiety is the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.

It’s weird. I can remember this feeling from as young as 7 or 8. Laying in bed with my father and my sister watching Saturday morning cartoons while my mom made pancakes.

I feel it now. I don’t want to be out of my bed for one issue but another issue is drawing me out of bed. Yes I’m still in bed at 9:40am.

I think if I was alone in my house and on an island with no one around, I wouldn’t feel this. I get anxious knowing that other people are up and doing things when I’m not because it happens when I’m not it bed too. I could be sitting on the couch and I get that twinge.

So I guess I just want to know if anyone else with mental health issues gets like this so thanks in advance!

Skincare!!

Good Morning my lovelies!!! I have been having a very rough past few days with my recovery from my surgery and my head problems. So I am very sorry that I have no been posting.

But I’m feeling a little better day, still super anxious for no reason, but ready to post again.

Since I’ve been on my leave of absence, I haven’t worn makeup because, why would I waste makeup when I spend most of my days inside and when I do go out, its for like an hour. Plus its been balls hot and humid. I knew I wasn’t going to be wearing makeup before I had my surgery so I figured that while I’m off work would be the best time to get my skincare down pat.

I don’t do too much as far as skincare goes but I just thought if anyone else out there has oily, porous skin like me then maybe this could help!

In my shopping haul I talked about the Garnier products that I got that I’m in love with. So obvs I’m gonna talk about them.

Basically what I do every morning is use the face wipes to “wash” my face (I can’t actually wash my face unless I’m in the shower because I can’t bend over). So I use the wipes to just get the grease off that seems to grow on my face every night……Then I use my Cetaphil DermaControl Moisturizer (SPF 30) to give myself some sun protection as well as give myself some miniaturization. I think that the more oil you take away, then the more oil your face produces.

Before my surgery I would use the Ulta version of the clarisonic with my Clean& Clear cleanser which was amazing for getting all the gunk out of my face.

My night-time routine is a little different depending on if I shower or not, which I usually do cause its summertime in the Midwest meaning its humid af. So last night while I was showering, I decided to just switch it up and I think it makes a lot of sense for what I did.

Usually I would wash my face while I shampoo my hair then exfoliate after while the conditioner sits. BUUUUUUT I thought last night it would make more sense to scrub first and get that first layer of gross off THEN use the cleanser. I don’t know how much of a difference in the long run that its going to make but my skin felt super smooth after the shower.

So basically that’s what I do for my skincare. I hope this helps anyone who, like I said, has oily skin.

If you guys have any skincare products that you love, please let me know!!

*None of these posts are affiliate posts, I just enjoy these products*

Yum!

Just wanted to share with you guys my favorite snack!

1)Apple slices (I believe these are gala apples?) I like to slice them super small so that I feel like I’m eating more food when really it’s just the same.

2)Cherries! I recently became OBSESSED with cherries. They’re so perfect to just snack on while you’re browsing the interwebs doing what you do. Beware of the pits though! I usually bring a paper towel with me to wipe the juice on but I forgot it and I’m wearing black leggings that need to be washed anyways.

Ok! Just wanted to pop in real quick. Having a really lazy Sunday. M hurt his knee playing hockey this morning (he’s been needing surgery on it but was waiting till after mine) so we’ve just been relaxing in the living room watching tv (I’m doing some work on the computer). We went out to lunch with a friend to our favorite Mexican restaurant to catch up and then came home. It’s a much needed relaxing day for both of us. I hope everyone else had a fantastic Sunday as well!

First outing!

Today was AMAZING! M and I have been so stressed out with the upcoming move, my surgery, packing the house, etc. that we needed a day like today.

First of all, its gorgeous out. 90 degrees with like 50% humidity, not clouds. Just perfect.

So M took me on a surprise adventure! It was even more exciting because it was my first adventure since I had my back surgery 2 and half weeks ago.

First we went to the movies, which was nice because the last time that we went to the movies was when Deadpool was in theaters and we bought this refillable popcorn bucket that’s like a year locked in price of a $4 fill. We’ve used it twice…

I digress.

So we saw Now You See Me 2! I was so excited because we loved the first one so much. And I am pleased to inform you that while there are some weird parts, its very worth seeing. And I think there might even be a third one coming out!!

After the movie I called my parents who had gone to a casino a few towns over to see if they wanted to meet up. While we waited for them, we went to a penny slot place just to see how they were. M and I LOVE casinos so we were curious. I ended up winning $128! Plus I had a good time hanging out with my folks and M.

Since we were right next to the grocery store, I figured with my new money maybe we should pick up a few things since we were running out.

Now we’re home. Back in AC. I have ice on my back and M is going through all our DVR stuff. I have some social media stuff I need to work on but then relaxing for the rest of the night.

I just wanted to tell everyone how fantastic my day was and how needed it was.

I hope everyone else had just as fantastic of a day that we had!

Moving Away

Happy Saturday! I told myself I was going to use today as a “rest day” from doing any sort of work but here I am. I just can’t stay away!!

Anywayyyyyy…

When did you move out from your parents house? When did you leave your hometown? Did you leave all your friends and find it hard to keep in touch?

Three years ago, M and I moved out to the Midwest. We’re both from different parts of California and it was the first time I had moved away from friends and family. It was time for me to move, I was in my mid twenties and my younger sister had just moved out.

So we made our way out here for M to go to school.

I’m not going to lie to you, I cried a lot the first few months. Heck, I still cry when I think about my family and how much I miss them. Where we live, my closest family is like 5 states away. Luckily M has family in the next state over so that’s nice.

But leaving your friends and family behind is very tough and that’s what I want to talk about.

My friends didn’t understand why I was moving half-way across the country with a guy I had only been with for 8 months.

The way I see it, you’re only young once and its in that time that you need to have adventures like that!

So if you’ve recently moved away, like you just got home from your first year of college and you miss your new friends, or maybe you’re getting prepared to leave for college and leave your friends and family. Or maybe you just decided to pick up and leave for a crazy adventure. I want to share my tips for staying in touch with family and friends when you leave your home town.

Tips for Staying in Touch When You Leave Home

1. Social Network!

I found personally, that apps like Facebook and Instagram are great ways to stay in touch and keep up to date with your friends and family back home. Now with Snapchat, it’s even easier to stay in touch. My mom just got a Snapchat (groan) and she won’t stop sending me snaps with those crazy face filters. Every morning I check Facebook and Instagram (my personal accounts) to check up on everyone from back home. Without Facebook, I would never have known that one of my friends from high school was pregnant with twins (eeeeekkk) or that the friend of the older sister of my friend was engaged.

2. FaceTime or Skype

These two (FaceTime mostly) saved me from going crazy when I missed my friends or family. my first Christmas away from home was probably the hardest thing (other than my parent’s birthdays and my sisters college graduation). Luckily my sister brought her Mac with her to Christmas and I was able to say hello and be there while everyone opened their gifts. It was like actually being there.

3. Save up and fly/drive home as often as possible

Since I moved here, I’ve been home…..twice I think? At least back to my home town. It’s VERY expensive to go home. At least for me. I have gone back to California a few other times but just not home. Any chance that you get to, if you can afford it, go home if you need to. Heck, while I’m on my leave of absence from work I would love to go home but a) my parents don’t live there anymore and b) shiz its expensive!

4. Make new friends but keep the old

Making new friends was one of the hardest things that I’ve done in a long time. But now that our time here is coming to a close (maybe) I find myself filled with saddness that I’m leaving the friends that I’ve made here. When you find yourself away from family for so long with only the friends you make, they turn into your family. Moving from home actually shows you who your true friends are. I was lucky enough to have a few stick with me. Sure some we tried to keep in contact, but it was impossible. Especially with the time differences. But making new friends is the best way to get past that (and that’s  whole post in its own, so more on that later…)

5. Learn to love your alone time.

Maybe use your new found alone time to start a blog? Maybe start a new hobby? Maybe finally catch up on Game of Thrones? Anything you want to do, you can. When we first moved here, I had so much free time that I knit a blanket, 3 scarves, and 4 coasters. When you find yourself left alone to your own devices, who knows what could happen. Hell, maybe you could find your newest passion!

So whether your find yourself in a new town away from your friends or family or back from your own adventure where you left friends and family behind, I hope these tips help a little. Because I know how hard it is to be in that position. But I promise, it gets easier!
